When in mourning, time passes fast, time passes slow.
Are pictures supposed to comfort the yearning?
Photos capture static joy
but in loss they bring no easing.
She is gone, will time spin
and stir a mind to heal.
And gather strength no one should need
aching for a soul that crossed the mortal veil.
Her pictures surprise your eye with a visceral rot.
Bores a hole in your mind
that has no measure.
Run away, your instincts failed.
Try! You must try to confront the loss,
find the hope sliver in an image.
See everything’s the same
while everything’s different.
And stand firm in your loss, it’s ok to hurt.
The universe showered life with tears
floating down a muddy tract.
Let fate’s hand turn your gaze
and see if this can wash decay:
Her picture in your path.
The world beyond holds its secrets
and we scrape our spirit free
for a tinctured view from beyond this life.
Focus on her photo for a glimpse?
So, move now with this grace.
Immerse in her photo with your sunken mood,
and beauty in that picture can spark joy,
and weld life to love as she taught.

I have followed Dr Beddow with his landscape painting and appreciated his talent. His poetry is a skill he did not display until after the loss of his beautiful daughter. His words are powerful and thought provoking. Being able to connect grieving families for support is valuable, knowing you are not alone in this devastating time.
